“Freedom to Serve”
By Dianne Prince
“For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another” (Galatians 5:13, NKJV).
The freedom we honor during Memorial Day did not come without sacrifice. And the freedom we have in Christ came at the highest cost—His own life. Both remind us that freedom is not the end goal. It is the beginning of purpose.
What will we do with the freedom we have been given? Scripture challenges us not to use liberty for selfish gain, but to love and serve others. In light of the courage shown by those who gave their lives for our country, and the grace shown by our Savior who gave His life for our souls, may we commit to living outward-focused lives. What does that look like? Use your freedom today as a platform to love deeply, serve joyfully, and live gratefully.
Today, choose one act of service that reflects your thankfulness. It may be helping someone in need, encouraging a friend, or supporting a local ministry. Whatever you choose, let your freedom fuel your faith in action. Use your life to serve others well and bring glory to God.
We honor the men and women who gave their lives while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces so we could enjoy living our lives as we choose. Let us choose wisely.
