“When Rejection Comes”
By Dianne Prince
“And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, ‘Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?’” —Luke 9:54 (NKJV)
In today’s scripture, Jesus’ earthly mission is nearing its end. He had set His face toward Calvary. His disciples went ahead to prepare the way and entered a Samaritan village, only to be met with open hostility.
Stunned by the rejection of their Master, James and John were ready to retaliate. “Lord, do You want us to call down fire from heaven?” they asked. But Jesus rebuked them. Rather than respond with revenge, He chose peace and simply moved on.
When others mistreat us, we often feel the urge to fight back. Like the disciples, we want to match offense with offense. But Jesus shows us a higher, holier path.
Has someone wronged you? Keep pressing forward.
Has someone lied about you? Keep pressing forward.
Has someone set a trap for you? Keep pressing forward.
Has someone taken something from you? Keep pressing forward.
Has someone misunderstood your intentions? Keep pressing forward.
Has someone mistreated or disrespected you? Let it go—and keep pressing forward.
You cannot step into what God has for you while holding on to what hurt you. To receive what is ahead, release what is behind. In the strength of the Lord, choose grace over revenge. Let it go—and keep pressing forward.
