“Bent but Not Broken”

By Rev. Everett R. Kimble, Sr.

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” — Philippians 4:8 (KJV)

As you start your day, what are the things occupying your mind?  Are you stuck in the past, sulking over something that was done to you years ago?  Are you holding on to a relationship gone bad and still making decisions based on that one experience, or maybe several others?  Are you unable to let go of a traumatizing ordeal that turned your life upside down?  Did you wake up this morning still fuming over an argument you had last night?  If you are, it is time for you to let go of the bad and grab hold of all that is good.

Don’t get me wrong; I am by no means suggesting that you should deny what you have endured and act as if it didn’t happen, but rather take joy in knowing that you made it.  You survived.  You got through it.  It’s over, and now it is behind you.  Even if you feel some of the effects this morning remember that you are still moving through it.  It almost took you out, but it didn’t.  It knocked you down, and at one point you were knocked out.  You’ve been beaten, but you are not busted.  You were bent, but not broken, and look at you now.  You are still here and your life has become an example of God’s glory, so today fix your thoughts on the healing, not the pain.

God has restored you to a place of honor.  You were once separated from Him, but because of His love today you are redeemed.  Now, despite the trouble your life is lovely again, and you can honestly say that the report is good.  Your virtue has been renewed and right here this morning you have a reason to give God some praise.

And here is your encouragement for today.  What was heavy was actually healthy, the hard things were helpful, and the hurt was part of your healing.  God has given you permission to live as a victor and not a victim and you should think on these things.

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”  (Philippians 4:8 KJV)

No Pity today, just praise.  To God be all the glory.  Have an awesome Friday!
