“The Final Say”
By Dianne Prince
“Then the Lord said to me [Habakkuk], ‘Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others. This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed’” (Habakkuk 2:2-3, NLT).
In today’s scripture, we find Habakkuk, a prophet of God, burdened by the violence and injustice around him. He is disturbed by corrupt government, religious leaders adopting worldly values, and the evil of foreign nations. Habakkuk asks God, “Why do the wicked prosper while the righteous suffer?” God assures him that what he sees is not the final outcome.
Just because Habakkuk cannot see the end doesn’t mean God isn’t working. Leeland Mooring recorded a song that captures it best. He sings, “Even when we cannot see it, God is working. Even when we cannot feel it, God is working. He never stops. He never stops working.”
As we witness hatred, prejudice, and injustice, we too may wonder why things are as they are and how long the moral decay, disrespect, and perverted justice will persist. Today’s scripture reminds us the questions shouldn’t be “Why is this happening?” or “How long will it last?” Instead, the answer lies in “Who”—who holds the power to fix things, and who is in control. Realize today, God is still in control. He oversees everything happening around us and every person on this earth.
Because He is in control, the ungodly may get by, but they will not get away. They may have their day, but God will have the final say. In time, God will deal with evil and injustice, restore what the enemy has taken, and make right every wrong done to you. Remember, what you see today is not how things will end. God is in control, and in His perfect time, everything will fall into place, and people will align with His will. As scripture assures us,
“If justice seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place.”
