Choose Praise Over Complaint
By Dianne Prince
“Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever” (Psalm 145:2, NIV).
Do you have an attitude of celebration or a spirit of complaint? Are you praising God through every circumstance, or are you voicing complaints to anyone who will listen? Are you lifting the name of Jesus, or is your testimony being diminished by the attitude you display?
We live in a time when it is easy to complain, easy to let doubt control us, easy for faith to waver, and easy to become discouraged. Negativity plays out in our homes, communities, government, and the world. It is also easy to slip into negative self-talk when it appears that good has taken a back seat to bad, and right is overshadowed by wrong. At times it feels as though evil is winning the battle and the enemy has the upper hand.
Be reminded today: in the midst of injustice, unfairness, and immorality, God remains in control. When the enemy seems to close in and evil surrounds you, take a praise break. Pause and celebrate God. The psalmist declares, “Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever.” Celebrate God’s character. Reflect on His goodness. Rejoice in His promises. Esteem His mercy and grace. As you celebrate, anticipate God showing up. Anticipate His power and His promise of a better time.
God is as much in control today as He was in the beginning, when He said, “Let there be,” and everything came into existence through His spoken Word. God still speaks things into existence. His acts are mighty, His works are phenomenal, and He is without equal. Therefore, pause amid life’s greatest challenges and praise God.
