“Jesus, Our Ever-Present Help”
By Dianne Prince
“In fear and amazement, the disciples asked one another, ‘Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him” (Luke 8:25b, NIV).
In our scripture this morning, the disciples were crossing to the other side of the lake, with Jesus asleep. Initially, they sailed smoothly on calm waters, but suddenly, an unexpected storm struck. The disciples tried to handle it themselves, but when they reached a point where the storm overwhelmed them, they turned to Jesus in desperation. Jesus promptly heard their call and rescued them.
Like the disciples, in our lives, we may be going about our daily business when unexpected situations suddenly arise. It’s crucial to remember that Jesus always watches over us. He sees when life throws us a curveball, knows when we’re in danger, fearful, or in need of His intervention, and He’s always attentive to our prayers.
Amid the chaos of daily life, in the midst of anxieties and fears, and during moments of wavering faith, all we need to do is invoke the name “JESUS.” He will hear us and come to us wherever we are.
We sometimes forget that we always have the most powerful presence in the universe at our disposal. He is invisible, active, and perpetually with us.
Today, if you find yourself overwhelmed to the point of having no other options and not knowing what to pray for, simply call out His name – JESUS. He is standing by, listening for your cry. Jesus will come to your aid with full power and authority over your situation: “He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him.”
