“Let God Set the Pace”

By Dianne Prince

“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures” (Psalm 23:2, KJV).

In a world that values busy-ness, constantly moving at a fast pace, and overachievement, rest is not something that we strive for. The start of a new year often comes with making resolutions, plans to do things differently, a renewed focus on achieving goals and a flurry of busy activities. Yet, God calls us to pause, rest, and allow Him to refresh our souls.

Green pastures symbolize abundance, safety, and refreshment—a place where our needs are met, and our anxieties are stilled. Rest is not something we naturally seek. However, if we let Him, God will lead us there. He knows our limits and as we get into His presence, He will slow our racing minds, place our activities on pause and renew our strength.

As you step into the new year, slow down and make spiritual rest a priority. Allow God to lead you away from the noise of life and into His presence. Trust that He knows what your heart needs, even when you feel compelled to keep moving. Set aside time to disconnect from the daily distractions and reconnect with Him through prayer, scripture, or by simply being still.

The question for you to ponder today is this: Are you resisting the green pastures God is trying to lead you to? If the answer is yes, it is time to surrender the urge to “do it all yourself, or to be everything to everyone” and embrace God’s invitation to rest. In His presence, you will find that He will care for every detail of your life, and He will give you the peace and restoration you need to continue the journey.
