“Pray First”

By Dianne Prince

“It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man” (Psalm 118:8, NKJV).

So many times, we place our trust in people and our hope in things. People will disappoint us, and things cannot come to our rescue during our greatest time of need. They cannot feed us when we are hungry, clothe us when we are naked, or visit us when we are sick. Things cannot heal our broken hearts when we lose a loved one, wipe away our tears when we are disappointed, or comfort us during our dark and lonely nights.

When all is said and done, we will leave this earth, leaving people and things behind. Because people are finite and things are temporary, our daily focus must be on that which is eternal. Our daily hope must be in the only true and everlasting God, the One who controls all people and things, and the One who holds time and eternity in His hands.

Your reminder for today is this: when confronted with unexpected issues, seek God’s guidance first before trying to navigate through them. Be mindful that your help does not come from people or your own ability. It is not in what you possess or in who you know. Instead, your help comes from God alone. Therefore, before attempting to solve a problem on your own, seek God’s guidance and confidently do exactly what He tells you to do. Whatever comes your way today had to be pre-approved by God before reaching you, and because He allowed it, He already knows how to resolve it in your favor.
