“Today Is A Gift”

By Dianne Prince

“This is the day that the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24, ESV).

The Psalmist reminds us this morning that God has given this day TO US to rejoice and be glad. Every morning God wakes us up is our opportunity to reflect on our many blessings and to offer up reverence Him. We reverence God this morning because of the unchanging relationship we enjoy with Him. And we thank Him for being a Father who cares for us not because of how we act, but He cares because He loves us.

We pay tribute to God today because He has all power. He goes with us in the most hostile of environments. He protects us from the missiles of our most ferocious enemies. He allows our enemies to run rampart for a season, and when enough is enough, He brings the enemy under His divine subjection and lets them know that God alone controls the beginning and He controls the end.

We also praise God today because He knows all things. He knows what our burdens are at this moment. He is at home with us and sees the challenges we face. He is at work with us and sees the fiery darts being launched to destroy us. He is in the sick room with us and hears the unfavorable report. God is always aware of our state of affairs and He always has it all under His control.

And finally, we praise God today because He is everywhere at the same time. Right now, He is with us and at the same time He is active in the lives of our loved ones. Yes, he is actively watching over them as they go and come. He is watching over them as they make decisions—some good and some not so good. Nevertheless, God is with them through it all and at the same time, He is at the local hospital with our loved ones in distress making sure their breath is regulated. He is on the college campus watching over our young adults. And he is in the middle of all the political events playing out in this country and across the world.

We thank God today for seeing all things, for knowing all things, for being everywhere at the same time and for being in control of all people and all events. We thank God for the favor He pours into our lives every day and we thank Him for holding us and our loved ones close to Him.
