“Godly Counsel”
By Dianne Prince
“I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me (Psalm 16:7, NIV).
The Psalmist reminds us this morning that the Spirit of God is our teacher. He is our guide. And He is our counselor. The Holy Spirit will settle our Spirit when our mind is racing from surprising news. He will calm us down when our spirit is restless because of an unexpected incident. And He will give us sound direction when we do not know what to do, which road to take, or how to solve a problem regardless of how small it is.
Even while we sleep, God is on His job telling us what we need to do. Have you every prayed for specific guidance at night and you woke up the next morning knowing exactly what to do? When you went to bed, the problem weighed heavy on your mind. You prayed about it during your nightly prayers. You woke up with a renewed spirit and with instructions on exactly what course of action to take.
God is always speaking. So, get quiet before him to hear what He is saying. Sometimes you can hear His voice right away. Other times, you may have to fast a half day, a full day, sometimes three days to hear His voice clearly.
Today, expect to hear God’s voice. Vow to pray for specific guidance for anything and everything that is a burden to your spirit. Tell God about anything that weighs heavy on your mind. God’s Holy Spirit will tell you what to do, what course of action to take, who you need to contact, and what you need to say.
