“Let Go and Be Free”
By Dianne Prince
“Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.” — Galatians 5:1 (NKJV)
Every Fourth of July, we celebrate the day our nation declared its independence from England. America chose freedom over remaining bound to what had held it back. As we celebrate our nation’s liberty, perhaps it is also time to ask ourselves: What am I still holding onto?
Many of us carry burdens that God never intended us to keep. We hold onto past hurts because we are afraid to forgive. We cling to unhealthy relationships because we are afraid of being alone. We carry guilt because we fear God could not truly forgive us. We refuse to surrender our worries because we fear losing control.
Fear convinces us that holding on is safer than letting go, but in reality, those very things become the chains that keep us from experiencing the freedom Christ died to give us.
Jesus did not save us to leave us in bondage. He came to break every chain and to replace fear with faith, anxiety with peace, and regret with hope. True freedom is not found in holding tighter. It is found in trusting God enough to let go.
This Independence Day, celebrate more than America’s freedom. Celebrate the freedom that comes from releasing those things that are holding you at a standstill. Whatever fear has convinced you to latch onto, place it in God’s hands today. The time has come to let go of that negative mindset. Let go of unforgiveness, past shame, limiting the magnitude of our prayers, reliance on worldly validation, and everything that has been holding you back.
Trust the One who is holding you and walk boldly in the freedom Christ has already won for you.
