“Faith Is Active”

By Dianne Prince

You see, his [Abraham] faith and his actions worked together. His actions made his faith complete” (James 2:22, NLT).

As human beings, we want to know how a situation will turn out before it happens. We like making plans to solve problems and carrying them out precisely. We want to know the details of what will take place today, tomorrow, and the day after. When unpleasant things disrupt our plans, we often try to control the outcome and want the unpleasantness to end quickly and in our favor.

Our desire to handle things with our own strength and our own wisdom shows that we do not trust God with the hard problems in our lives. Trusting God means giving up control, depending on His Word, and waiting patiently for Him to act.

To step out in faith is to seek God through His Word and prayer and act on what His Word says. Faith means acting on what you believe. Faith without action is dead faith, but faith combined with action is blind faith. Blind faith activates God’s hand.
