“Steadfast in the Storm”

“Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go” (Joshua 1:7, NIV).
Our lives can be described as “lives on the move” because everything around us is constantly changing. In today’s scripture, Moses has died, and Joshua now has the responsibility of leading over two million people into the promised land. The Jordan River is at flood stage and stands between the children of Israel and the promised land. It is humanly impossible for them to crossover.
In Joshua’s dilemma, God tells him, “Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go” (Joshua 1:7, NIV).
The key point from today’s scripture is this: when life throws you a curveball, don’t focus on the past. Instead, look ahead and keep moving forward in God’s power. Change is inevitable. The unexpected will happen. Death, sickness, financial lack, disappointment, and lost loved ones are all part of life. Nevertheless, when life gets tough, we cannot give up. When we can’t see a way through, we can’t get caught up in despair. God didn’t bring us to today for us to turn back and try to relive yesterday.
Today’s encouragement is this: when the cares of life hit you hard, don’t look back—press on. When circumstances turn your life upside down, press on. When people set traps for you, keep pressing on. And when your past tries to pull you back, shake it off, and press on. Why? Because God is on your side. He is bigger than any mountain, more powerful than any storm, and stronger than any hardship.
Realize today that life is always on the move. Circumstances are always changing. Make up your mind today not to be swayed by the winds of change but to trust God and press on against all odds.
