“Your God Is Greater Than Your Giant”

By Dianne Prince

“Then all this assembly shall know that the LORD does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the LORD’s, and He will give you into our hands.” — 1 Samuel 17:47 (NKJV)

Fear and its close companions, worry and anxiety, are everywhere. They creep into our homes through alarming news reports. They steal sleep from us and convince us that tomorrow will be worse than today. Fear magnifies every problem until it seems impossible to overcome.

When young David walked into the Valley of Elah, he saw the same giant everyone else saw. The difference was not in what he faced but in how he looked at it. While experienced soldiers trembled before Goliath, David stood confidently because his eyes were fixed on the greatness of God. He remembered the Lord’s faithfulness in delivering him from the lion and the bear, and he knew that the God who had never failed him would not fail him now.

Like David, we all face giants. Perhaps your giant is not nine feet tall. Perhaps it is a burden too heavy to carry, a door that refuses to open, or a prayer that has not been answered. Maybe your giant takes the form of financial pressure, a broken relationship, a difficult decision, or an unexpected trial. Fear urges you to run, but faith calls you to stand firm in God’s promises.

When anxiety knocks at your door, answer it with prayer. Lift your eyes above your circumstances and fix them on the Lord. The God who strengthened David will strengthen you. The God who gave David victory will fight for you. The Lord who guided David still reigns today.

The Word of God declares that fear does not have the final word. Faith does. So, walk forward with confidence because your God has never lost a battle, and He will not begin with you.

Your reminder for today is this: Your God is greater than your giant. Walk forward with confidence, because the battle belongs to the Lord.
