A Thankful Heart Serves Others

By Dianne Prince

“If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.” — John 13:14–15 (NKJV)

Gratitude is not only something we feel. It is something we walk out. Jesus showed us that a thankful heart expresses itself through humble service. On the night before His crucifixion, He knelt to wash His disciples’ feet—an act of love, humility, and gratitude to the Father.

The heart of a servant sees every act of kindness as an opportunity to honor God. Serving others shifts our focus from what we lack to how much we have been given. Gratitude grows when we pour it out through love, encouragement, and generosity. In serving, we mirror the heart of Christ, who came not to be served but to serve.

When we serve with thankfulness, even the smallest task becomes an offering of worship. Helping a neighbor who has not been very friendly, showing patience to someone who has not been kind to you, or offering a word of comfort to someone who is at the end of their rope can be expressions of gratitude to the God who has blessed us so abundantly.

Today, express your love for God by serving His people. Look for someone you can bless—a friend, a family member, or even a stranger. Every act of love done in Jesus’ name becomes a thank-you note to God.

A thankful heart finds its fullest expression in a life that serves.
