“Change Is Inevitable”

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible” (Hebrews 11:1, NIV).
This world is filled with uncertainty. The only thing we can be certain of is that uncertainty will come. Things are constantly changing. People are constantly changing. Politics, economics, social norms, our health, and our age are constantly changing. As long as we live, there is going to be change in our lives.
In our scripture today, the writer tells us that faith is not looking at change as something to be resisted. It is not looking at things as they appear to be. Faith is looking at things through the eyes of God’s Word. When we walk by faith, we obey God’s Word in spite of our feelings or our circumstances. Faith means holding on to God’s truth no matter how heavy the burden is, no matter how dark the day gets and no matter how severe the consequences appear to be. The good thing about walking by faith is when we have used up all the faith we have, if we just stand, we can be confident that God will step in and give us more.
Abraham was called a friend of God. He believed God. And it was accounted to him for righteousness. Abraham’s story is a lot like our story. Abraham did not always do what God told him to do. He did not always go where God told him to go. He did not always follow God’s precepts. However, when Abraham got off course, he knew how to get back to God.
Your reminder for today is this: trust that whatever changes are taking place in your life will work to your advantage. If everything you do to manage the situation fails, settle down and prayerfully stay where God put you until He tells you to move. Why is it important to wait on God until He tells you to move? Abraham left Canaan and went to Egypt to escape a famine. But in Egypt, he found himself with a new and more difficult set of problems. The lesson we learn from Abraham is that you are safer in a famine in God’s hands, than in a palace in the hands of man.
Change is not something to be feared, to be dreaded, or with which to be consumed. Instead, change is designed by God as an opportunity to exercise your faith, to depend on Him, to surrender your all to Him, and to trust him completely with your life.
