“Take the First Step”
By Dianne Prince
“Know therefore that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments” (Deuteronomy 7:9, NASB).
Too often we break our promises just as easily as we make them. Sometimes we break them because we simply forget. Other times we change our minds. And still other times we just do not feel like doing what we said we would do. There are even times when we break our promises because of circumstances or events beyond our control—bad weather, a flat tire on the road, or unexpected sickness.
God is the only person who always keeps His word. God promises you, “Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” Notice, you have to take the first step in order for the promise to be fulfilled. You have to “resist” in order for the devil to flee.
God also promises, “Come unto me all who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.” You have to “come to God” in prayer in order for God to give you rest. If you do your part, you can be guaranteed God will do His part.
Some of us have been praying about a situation for weeks, months and sometimes years and it appears nothing is happening. The thing is, perhaps you are not living up to your end of the promise.
Today, make a deliberate effort to do your part in whatever you are believing God for and He will deliver on His promises. What is your part? Live right. Keep praying. And remember three things: 1) God is faithful toward those who obey His Word. 2) His promises are a sure thing for those who keep His commandments. And 3) Take the first step and God will take it from there.
