“Face Your Fear”
By Rev. Everett R. Kimble, Sr.
Fear debilitates us. The things that we are afraid of can cause us to lose out on becoming our best selves for God. Fear can block your progress, it can sabotage relationships, it can stifle promotions, and ultimately it can halt our holiness.
But most fear is learned fear. Research teaches that the only natural fear is the fear of falling, but the bible reveals that God has not given us the spirit of fear and here is your encouragement for today; whatever fear you have can be overcome if you are willing, through Christ, to chase it down and overcome it.
What you must realize is that your best you is on the other side of your greatest fear. The key is not in praying you will never have an encounter with your fear but in preparing for the day when you will, even to the point of you chasing after what frightens you until you overtake it, defeat it, and begin to use it as a source of strength.
1 Chronicles 11:22 gives us a glimpse of what this looks like. It reads: “There was also Benaiah son of Jehoiada, a valiant warrior from Kabzeel. He did many heroic deeds, which included killing two champions of Moab. Another time, on a snowy day, he chased a lion into a pit and KILLED it.”
Can you imagine the feeling of victory Benaiah must have felt as he crawled out of that snow filled pit? The scripture does not say that he was afraid, but the lion for sure was an obstacle. And that is all your fear is to you, an obstacle. Wouldn’t you agree that it is time for you to move that obstacle out of your way?
That promotion that you have been afraid to ask for, go get it. That relationship that you have been afraid to mend, go fix it. That sermon that you have been too frightened to preach, go preach it. That thing that you have been afraid that you were not strong enough or smart enough to do, trust God and go do it.
I read somewhere that “not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed unless it is faced”. Just like Benaiah, you can choose right now to chase down whatever strike fear in you, dive in and crawl out on the other side victorious. “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 1 Tim. 1:7 KJV – Today is your day, go get your blessing. Have a fearless and faithful Friday.
