“Faith in the Storm”

By Dianne Prince

“Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, ‘It is a ghost!’ And they cried out for fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.’” — Matthew 14:25-27 (NKJV)

Storms have a way of shaking your confidence. The disciples feared as the waves rose, yet Jesus came walking on what threatened them. What they saw as danger, Jesus used as a pathway.

Faith is not the absence of storms. It is the assurance of His presence in them. When Jesus said, “It is I,” He reminded the disciples that they were not alone.

You may be facing uncertainty, fear, or difficulty. Yet the same voice that spoke to the disciples speaks to you today: “Do not be afraid.” God does not always remove the storm, but He always reveals Himself through it.

Keep your eyes on Him. When Peter focused on Jesus, he walked on water. When he focused on the wind, he began to sink. Where you fix your attention determines how you walk through the storm.

Trust God in the waves. He is closer than you think.

Carry this with you today: When you focus on Jesus, fear loses its power over your life.
