“God Holds You Close”

By Dianne Prince
“As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem” (Isaiah 66:13, NIV).

On this Mother’s Day, we are reminded of the tender, nurturing love that so often defines motherhood. In today’s scripture, Isaiah uses the image of a mother to describe the very heart of God. In today’s verse, God speaks to His people with a promise of comfort—not stern correction or distant affection, but the close, gentle reassurance of a mother with her child.

This verse does not diminish God’s strength. Instead, it highlights His tenderness. Like a mother who rises in the night to soothe a crying infant or tirelessly supports her children through every stage of life, so God watches over us. He provides, protects, listens, and embraces us in our most vulnerable moments.

Whether we have experienced the comfort of a loving earthly mother or have longed for one, we can rest in the truth that God’s love fills every gap. He knows our needs before we speak them. His comfort goes beyond mere words. It reaches into our hearts and steadies us when life feels unstable.

We thank God for the gift of mothers and mother-figures in our lives who reflect His love so well. If your heart is hurting or weary today, remember this: God is your ultimate comforter. The God who created you also carries you close, like a mother comforting her beloved child. Strive today to receive God’s nurturing love and reflect it to others.

To all mothers, have an amazing day!
