“God is Still Running Things”

“Then the Lord said to me, ‘Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others. This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed’” — Habakkuk 2:2–3, NLT.
In today’s scripture, we meet the prophet Habakkuk. He is weighed down—burdened by the violence, the injustice, and the corruption all around him. He sees leaders who are dishonest and only interested in benefiting themselves, people adopting worldly values, and nations bent on evil. And like many of us, he asks God the hard question:
“Why do the wicked prosper, while the righteous suffer?”
But God assures Habakkuk—what he sees is not the final outcome. Just because he cannot see the end, does not mean God is not at work.
Leeland Mooring captures it in song: “Even when we cannot see it, God is working. Even when we cannot feel it, God is working. He never stops. He never stops working.”
And so it is for us.
As we look around at hatred, at prejudice, at injustice, we too may wonder: Why is this happening? How long will this last?
But today’s word shifts our focus. The question is not “why” or “how long.” The answer is found in who. Who holds the power? Who sits in control?
And the answer is God.
Hear me today—God is still in control. He oversees every event, every nation, every person on this earth. The ungodly may get by—but they will not get away. They may have their day—but God will always have the final say.
In His time, He will deal with evil and injustice. He will restore what the enemy has taken. He will make right every wrong done to you.
So remember this: what you see today is not how things will end. God is still running things. And in His perfect time, everything will fall into place, and every heart will align with His will.
As the scripture says: “If justice seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place.”
