“God’s Word”

By Dianne Prince

“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5, NIV).

The enemy will resort to anything and everything to steal our joy, destroy our faith, and kill our hope. He knows our eternal life is secure because it’s hidden with Christ in God. Therefore, the enemy seeks to seize our daily victories by playing mind games.

Some of us have allowed the enemy to imprison us. We’re restrained by negative thoughts, held captive by our past, confined by fear, and restricted by ‘what if’ scenarios in our minds.

As Christians, we don’t resort to the devil’s methods of manipulation, threats, blackmail, or exploitation. Our weapon is the Word of God.

The question for us this morning is: How do we bring negative thoughts under Christ’s control? Paul makes it clear: ‘We demolish arguments and every pretension that opposes the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to make it obedient to Christ.’ In other words, we tear down mental barriers with the Word of God, eliminate fear with the Word of God, and confront negative thoughts with the Word of God.

The enemy and the Word of God cannot coexist. Therefore, we must saturate the enemy’s operating environment with God’s Word. God’s Word will break the chains that hold us captive. As we repeat God’s Word, it will permeate our surroundings. The more we spread His Word, the weaker the enemy becomes. With persistence, the enemy flees, negative thoughts are replaced with God’s truth, our minds regain clarity, and our spirits find peace.
