“In the Meantime”
By Rev. Everett R. Kimble, Sr.
“If you love me, obey my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him because he lives with you now and later will be in you. No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you.” (John 14:15-18, NLT)
There are a few popular phrases that have been used by many of us looking for God to do something miraculous. “Get ready for your breakthrough,” “Your breakthrough is on the way,” and my personal favorite, “You are next in line for a breakthrough or miracle.” I must admit, they are all good for a quick boost of spiritual energy when we are pressing hard to get to that next Spirit-filled moment. But, while breakthrough is what we long for, the truth is, many of us will experience a breakdown before we get to that next breakthrough.
We will have a breakdown in our finances, a breakdown in our relationships, a breakdown on our jobs, a breakdown in our families, or even a breakdown in our church. We all know that this Christian journey is filled with roadblocks and hard knocks. The good thing about the struggle is, yes, I said good thing, that’s when you know your breakthrough is getting a little bit closer.
This passage reminds us that no matter where we find ourselves, turning our hearts to Jesus is the most powerful and important thing we can do. I know you are waiting, but what can you do in the meantime? Matthew 22:37-40 is a great place to start. A quick summary reminds us to Love God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and love our neighbors as ourselves. So, spend more time in prayer and reading God’s word and as you draw closer to Him, He will draw closer to you. You can always spread the love of God wherever you are so that the truth and love of God can manifest in you and through you by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Loving on others helps build your spiritual muscle and when that breakdown comes, and it will, you will be strong enough to press on to your next breakthrough. You will possess the power of God that will protect you and give you the humility to accept the help that He is sure to send your way. So, while you are waiting, just keep doing what you know you must do, and God will continue to show you just how great and marvelous He is.
“If you love me, obey my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you.” (John 14:15-16, NLT)
Stay faithful; bigger is on the way. Have a blessed and loving Friday!
