Just a Moment with You

By Dianne Prince

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” — James 4:8 (NKJV)

My 5-year-old grandson loves to climb into my lap and cuddle. It never lasts long—just a minute or two—but in those brief moments, he finds comfort, security, and love. Then, just as quickly, he hops down and continues with his day, confident and at peace.

It reminds me of how our relationship with God can be. We often approach Him in small bursts—seeking His nearness, His comfort, or a word of encouragement. And though the time may be short, we are changed. In just a moment of closeness, we are reminded that we are seen, we are cared for, and we are deeply loved.

God does not require long, eloquent prayers or extended hours of devotion to be close to us. He simply asks that we come, and that we come often. Like a loving Father, He delights in those moments—even the brief ones—when we choose to rest in His presence.

If a child can carry peace into his play after one minute of affection, how much more can we carry God’s peace into our day after a moment with Him?

Remember this: When you talk to God often, when a crisis comes, you do not have to talk to Him long. Draw near to Him regularly, even if for a moment and He will draw near to you.
