“Live in Today”
By Dianne Prince
“After you have suffered a little while, [the God of all grace] will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast” (1 Peter 5:10, NIV).
There is a quote that says, “Don’t ruin a good today by thinking about a bad yesterday.”
God tells us to not live in the past, but to live in the present, and to trust Him with the strength we need to get though the current day. Why? Because when we dwell on the past, we are using today’s strength to relive what went on yesterday. And when we worry about what might happen tomorrow, we are using today’s strength to try and figure out what to do about something that has not happened yet. Statistics tell us that 95% of the things we worry about never happen.
Today has enough challenges of its own. Today, there are new struggles to deal with, unexpected issues to take on, and new battles to fight.
God tells us in today’s scripture that He will give us the exact amount of strength we need to deal with today’s problems. The strength God gives us will not change the situation, but it will give us the hope needed to stay in the fight. God’s strength will not remove the reality of the pain we may be feeling from a broken relationship or from the death of a loved one, but it will give us the peace we need to think clearly, and He will give us the endurance you need to stay the course. It is through endurance that we will see the hand of God working in miraculous ways while we are in the fight. And it is through perseverance that we will receive all the blessings God has waiting for us when we come out on the other side.
And here is your reminder for today: Whatever went on yesterday, cannot be changed. What will go on tomorrow cannot be predicted. So, make a deliberate choice to live in today. How? When you find your mind dwelling on an issue over which you have no control, quote a scripture and ask God to help you live in the moment. He will do just that.
Whatever life brings your way today, meet your challenges head on because God will supply the level of strength you need to fight today’s battle. And when you feel like you do not have any fight left in you, God’s strength will kick in and He will give you a renewed desire to keep moving forward.
