“Lord, Show Me the Way”

By Dianne Prince

“Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths” (Psalm 25:4, NIV).

How many times have we found ourselves circling the same mountain? Praying the same prayers. Facing the same struggles. Promising we would not fall into that habit again—only to discover we are standing in the very place we asked God to deliver us from.

In our scripture this morning, the Psalmist does not demand direction—he asks for it. “Show me your ways, Lord; teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long” (Psalm 25:4-5).

That prayer is the prayer of someone who understands that life can be deceiving. The road that looks smooth may lead to heartbreak. The door that swings open easily may not be sent by God. The enemy has a way of polishing the wrong path until it shines like destiny. He can dress compromise in the clothing of opportunity. He can make distraction look like blessing.

That is why we cannot rely on feelings alone. We cannot trust appearances. We must seek God—not only when the road is dark and crooked—but even when it seems straight and certain. Especially then.

If experience has taught us anything, it has taught us this: our own understanding is limited. We have tried it our way. We have leaned on our own strength. And sometimes, the very gifts God gave us became the tools we used to bypass Him. Yet through every hardship, every detour, every valley, God has been growing an unwavering trust deep within us.

Hardships have refined us. Delays have matured us. Closed doors have protected us.

So today, let God’s Word be your compass. Let His Spirit be your guide. Let His truth illuminate what your eyes cannot see.

So today, before you make the call, before you send that text message, before you say yes or no—pause and ask, “Lord, show me Your way.”

When you invite God to lead you, you stop walking in circles—and start walking in purpose.
