“Love in Action”

By Dianne Prince

“If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.” (John 13:14, NKJV)

On Thursday of Holy Week, Jesus shared the Last Supper and washed His disciples’ feet. He took the posture of a servant. It was a model for how we should live.

The disciples struggled to understand. Like them, we often associate greatness with recognition and influence. Yet Jesus redefined greatness as humility and service.

Foot washing was uncomfortable, personal, and humbling. It required closeness and vulnerability. In the same way, true love is often expressed in quiet, unseen acts that require us to sacrifice.

Washing feet in today’s society may not involve water and a basin. It involves stepping into the messy situations of those around us and choosing to care anyway. It looks like choosing to help when your schedule feels full. It looks like offering encouragement when it would be easier to stay distant. And it looks like noticing a need and meeting it, even when you are carrying needs of your own.

Jesus served on His way to the cross. He did not wait for a convenient moment. He loved in the hardest moment.

Your reminder for today is this. Service is a deep expression of love. Today, let your life reflect love in action. Let your hands be quick to serve, even when it costs you something.

Service is not weakness. It is the quiet, powerful evidence of Christ at work within you.
