“Prayer Changes the Story”
By Dianne Prince
“In those days Hezekiah was sick and near death. And Isaiah the prophet… said to him, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Set your house in order, for you shall die, and not live.”‘” — Isaiah 38:1 (NKJV)
King Hezekiah was sick unto death. He received devastating news from the Lord to get his house in order because he was going to die. His future appeared settled, and his outcome seemed certain. Yet instead of surrendering to despair, he turned his face toward the Lord and prayed. God heard his heartfelt cry, responded with mercy, and added fifteen years to his life. What appeared destined to happen was transformed by the power of prayer.
There are moments when circumstances seem final. A difficult diagnosis, a broken relationship, financial hardship, or an unexpected setback can leave us believing there is no hope. However, prayer invites God into situations that appear beyond repair. While God always works according to His perfect will, He also delights in responding to the sincere prayers of His people.
Prayer is not a last resort. It is our first response. It shifts our focus from fear to faith and reminds us that God is able to accomplish what seems impossible. Instead of allowing discouragement to define your future, choose to bring every concern before the One who sees beyond your present circumstances.
Today, refuse to let hopelessness have the final word. Lift your situation to God, trust His wisdom, and expect Him to work in ways you cannot yet see.
Your reminder for today is this: Prayer changes the story. What appears destined for doom is never beyond the reach of God who hears and answers prayer.
