“Remember the Lord”

By Dianne Prince

“The waters closed in over me to take my life; the deep surrounded me… When my life was fainting away, I remembered the Lord, and my prayer came to You, into Your holy temple.”
(Jonah 2:5, 7, ESV)

Jonah was literally in a dark place—trapped in the belly of a great fish, surrounded by hopelessness. Yet in that moment, he remembered the Lord. When Jonah prayed, God heard him and performed a miracle of deliverance.

We, too, face seasons when life seems to close in around us. Disappointments pile up. We pray for peace, receive it for a moment, then find the worry returning the next day. Darkness creeps in through situations that break our hearts—a child who refuses help, a loved one making poor choices, an illness that drains our strength, or the weight of caring for someone day after day. Even the strain of a relationship can leave us weary in spirit.

As much as we try to stay encouraged, life can wear us down. Yet today’s scripture reminds us: when the pressures of life surround us, we must pray—pray for strength as fierce as a thousand angels, pray for wisdom from the Father, and pray for peace and contentment to carry us through the day.

So, keep rising each morning with determination to face the day. Keep believing that God will deliver you to a better place. Keep trusting that He will provide the exact strength you need for each moment.

When life feels darker than usual, remember the Lord. He knows exactly where you are, He sees your faithfulness, and He hears every prayer.

Keep asking. Keep seeking. Keep knocking. And remember—no darkness is deep enough to hide you from the God who delivers.
