Rest
By Dianne Prince
“Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him” (Psalm 37:7, NIV).
To rest in the Lord does not mean to sit back and passively wait for something to happen. True rest takes intentional effort. It is the deliberate choice to stop expending mental energy on worries we cannot change. It is deciding not to dwell on how a situation might turn out, but to live as though it is already in God’s hands and resolved.
Rest means carrying out daily responsibilities as if God has already answered our prayers. It is moving forward by faith, confident that He has supplied our needs before they arise. It is walking with the assurance that God goes before us, clearing obstacles from our path before we reach them.
The reminder from today’s scripture is simple: Be still. Do not get ahead of the Lord with your own plans. Be patient. Do not try to force the outcome of a difficult situation. Instead, seek God for answers you lack the wisdom to find on your own. Guard your thoughts from doubt and fear. Praise Him in advance for the deliverance He has planned. Reflect on the many times He has brought you through before.
Seeking Him, praising Him ahead of the answer, and remembering His past faithfulness will strengthen your faith, steady your heart, and keep you at perfect rest.
