“Stand Firm for What Is Right”
By Dianne Prince
“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:10, NIV).
Often, we become frustrated with certain family members who may not always do the right thing. Similarly, frustration arises at work when we feel surrounded by those who do not share our values, and in our volunteer organization when it seems the agenda overlooks issues that are important to us. Know today that there is a purpose for you being in the family you are in. And there is a reason for you working where you work and volunteering where you volunteer.
Jesus ensures that every family, job, and organization has at least one Christian presence – it could be you. Take our jobs for instance, Jesus strategically places believers in various professions to advocate for those who are marginalized, defend those who are vulnerable, and promote righteousness in an environment that is managed by people who have no moral compass.
Our mission is to demonstrate through our actions and words how to live, react, and treat others with respect. Regardless of the opposition we face when questioning the status quo or the loneliness we feel when speaking up, we must remain steadfast in our convictions and trust in God’s plan, knowing that persecution will come to those who follow Christ.
Today, seek opportunities to stand up for what is right. And press past the challenges that may come with standing firm, knowing that you are not just “going along to get along.” The world will be a better place because of your stance and God will be pleased with your actions.
