“Start with What You Have”
By Everett R. Kimble, Sr.
One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, saith unto him, There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many? And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would. When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost. — John 6:8, 9, 11, 12 (KJV)
Let me start by saying this: God has already prepared everything you need. Someone on the call this morning is facing something that they have never faced before, and in this moment it seems larger than life. You have concluded that it is going to take a miracle to fix it, so you have been praying and waiting, waiting and praying but nothing seems to be happening. And here is my encouragement for you this morning. Stop waiting and start looking around for what God has already placed in your hands. Chances are He has already put something or someone in your life to help you get to where He wants you to be and to get what He desires for you to have.
The disciples in this passage saw the crowd and assumed that there was no way they could come up with enough food to feed all the people. But Andrew looking around at what was already there noticed a little boy with two fish and five barley loaves of bread which did not appear to be very much with a crowd that size, but God. Jesus took the loaves and the fish and blessed them, and we all know how the story goes. Everyone ate as much as they wanted and still they were able to round up twelve baskets of leftovers. What a miracle!
Jesus worked a miracle for them back then He can certainly do it for you right now. God can take the little bit you have and turn it into a bountiful blessing, all you have to do is use what you have and trust God to do the rest. So, look around, ask Him to show you where it is, and then trust God to bless you and the thing to be the blessing. It is already there, you can almost see it now. Have a wonderful and awesome Friday.
