“God’s Word Is Power”
By Dianne Prince
“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5, NIV).
The enemy will resort to anything and everything to steal our joy, destroy our faith, and kill our hope. He knows our eternal life is not at stake because our eternal life is hidden with Christ in God. Therefore, the enemy works to seize our daily victory. And he does so by playing games with our minds.
Some of us have allowed the enemy to imprison us. Some are restrained by negative thoughts, held captive by our past, confined by fear, and restricted by “what if” games that take place in our minds.
As Christians, we do not stoop to the devil’s method of war. We do not use manipulation, threats, blackmail, exploitation, and other games of the mind. We do not fight the enemy in our flesh. But our weapon to fight is the Word of God.
The question for us this morning is: How do we bring negative thoughts under the subjection of Christ? Paul lays it out plain and clear. “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” In other words, we tear down mental barriers with the Word of God. We eliminate fear with the Word of God. We meet negative thoughts head-on with the Word of God.
The enemy and the Word of God cannot coexist. Therefore, we must put God’s Word in the atmosphere where the enemy operates. God’s Word will break the chains that hold us captive. As we repeat God’s Word, His Word will permeate our surroundings. The more we put His Word out there, the weaker the enemy gets. As we persist, 1) the enemy will flee, 2) negative thoughts will be displaced with God’s truth, 3) our minds will be restored to a state of clear thinking, and 4) our spirits will be at peace.
