For Your Information-The new tax law allows people age 65+ to claim an additional $6,000 tax deduction for tax years 2025–2028, using Schedule 1-A with Form 1040. This deduction reduces taxable income, but it is not a payment or refund. You generally must file a tax return to claim it, and it only helps if you have taxable income. If your income is already low enough that you owe no federal tax, the deduction usually won’t produce any money back.
