Victory Over Temptation
By Dianne Prince
“For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world” (1 John 2:16, KJV).
Today’s scripture highlights the importance of seeking God’s protection from the snares of the enemy and the pull of worldly desires. When Jesus was tempted by the devil in the wilderness, the attacks came in three ways. First, the devil appealed to His flesh: “Command these stones to be made bread.” When that failed, he tried pride: “Cast yourself down to display your power.” Finally, he tempted Jesus through His eyes: “I will give you everything in the world as far as you can see.”
In the same way, the enemy tempts us today: through our eyes—because it looks good; through our flesh—because it feels good; and through our pride—because it may impress others.
Each time, Jesus resisted with the Word of God, boldly declaring, “It is written.” After three attempts, the devil left Him for a season.
The truth for you today is this: God has equipped you with everything you need to overcome temptation. His Word is your greatest weapon, and His Spirit within you provides the strength to stand firm. Every time you resist the enemy, you grow stronger in your faith and in your walk with God.
Victory is not only possible. It is promised to those who trust in the Lord and cling to His Word. Stand firm, resist the devil, and he will flee from you. And when he does, you will not only remain standing, you will be standing in victory.
