“Walk It Out”
By Dianne Prince
“My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one” (John 17:15, NIV).
We are called to be in the world, but not of it. This doesn’t mean withdrawing from society or associating only with fellow believers. Nor does it mean ignoring those who don’t share our faith or judging those whose choices in life are the opposite of ours. Being in the world means engaging with it without compromising our beliefs. At times, we must fight for the cause of Christ, going to battle to uphold good in a fallen world.
We live in a world where good and evil clash daily, and evil is always seeking a fight. As Christians, we are commanded to confront the forces of evil. We cannot stand idly by. We must engage, fighting for the salvation of our families, for joy in sorrow, hope in hopelessness, and peace in confusion. We must fight for wisdom for those who have lost their way, for renewed strength for the weary, and for health, provision, and morality. We fight for love to be restored in our homes, communities, and society, and for those who cannot fight for themselves.
I’m reminded that Jesus never argued or negotiated with the enemy. He simply quoted scripture to defeat him. Like Jesus, when the enemy invades your space, fight him with the Word of God. The Word addresses every trick the enemy uses. It promises that God will supply your needs, make your enemies your footstool, and bless your descendants. It reminds you that, though you may be cast down, you won’t be destroyed. And it assures you that whatever you ask in faith, God will provide.
To effectively combat evil in the world, remember that prayer is your weapon, the Word of God is your ammunition, faith is your shelter, and Jesus is your cover.
Be in the world, but do not let the world get in you.
