“When You Can’t Sleep”
By Dianne Prince
“I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety” (Psalm 4:8, NKJV).
Most of us have experienced nights when sleep feels impossible. The room is quiet, but your mind is racing. You replay conversations. You worry about tomorrow. And you imagine every possible worst-case scenario. Your body is tired, but your thoughts refuse to rest. Peace feels just out of reach.
But what if you remembered who is awake while you sleep?
What if you remembered that God is standing guard all around your bedroom?
You may not know what tomorrow holds, but God does. You may not have answers for every problem, but He does. You may feel vulnerable in the stillness of the night, but you are never outside His care.
Psalm 4:8 is more than a verse about getting a good night’s sleep. It is a declaration of your trust in God: “I will lie down in peace.” David’s circumstances may not have been peaceful, but he knew the One who could give him peace in the middle of them.
Tonight, you can release what you cannot control. You don’t have to stay awake trying to solve tomorrow. Give God the conversations you are having with yourself. Give Him the uncertainties, the fears, the unanswered questions, and all the things you cannot change.
Close your eyes and remember: God does not sleep.
While you rest, He remains faithful. While you sleep, He is watching over you. While you let go, He remains in control.
You can sleep peacefully—not because everything is settled, but because the One who holds everything is still awake.
