“Anchored in What Lasts”

By Dianne Prince

“While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18, NKJV).

So much of our focus is often built around what we can touch, earn, and control. Our savings account becomes our safety net. Our prayers are sometimes driven by a desire for comfort. We ask God to remove hardship rather than shape us through it. Even our relationships can become self-centered instead of rooted in genuine love. But all these things—money, comfort, and self-interest—are temporary. They shift with the seasons, often slipping through our fingers just when we think we’ve secured them.

Paul reminds us that the visible is fleeting, but the unseen—the character God forms in us, the faith He builds through trials, and the love that reflects His own—is eternal. When we anchor ourselves in what is eternal, we find true peace. Our prayers align with God’s will. Our relationships are grounded in seeking the good of others. And our sense of security rests not in our possessions, but in the promises of God.

Here’s your reminder for today: If your priorities are built on what is temporary, shift your focus. Look beyond the visible and place your hope in what is eternal. God is doing a greater work—one that may not always be seen. Lift your eyes. He is working in the unseen, and what He builds will last forever.
