“God Won’t Let Go”

By Rev. Everett R. Kimble, Sr.

“Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away.  Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.” —2 Corinthians 12:8-9 (NLT)

A few years ago, I read a story about a little boy who lived with his mother on a small lake.  One day while he was swimming in the lake, he came upon an alligator that began to chase him as he frantically turned and swam for the shore.  His mother noticed what was happening and began running towards her son and screaming for help.  She and the alligator reached the little boy about the same time.  The gator chomped on his leg, and his mother grabbed the little boy as tight as she could while trying to pull him free.  She held on so tight that her fingernails dug into his skin.  Others who heard her screams rushed to help and were able to free the boy.  The next morning reporters surrounded his bed as he lay recovering from his injuries, and one asked if he would allow him to see the wounds on his legs from the alligator bite.  The little boy agreed but said, “If you really want to see something great you ought to look at the scars my mom left on my arms because she wouldn’t let me go.”

Some of you all today have just gone through one of the biggest ordeals of your life, but you are still caught up in the hurt and pain of your dilemma. You haven’t stopped to realize that you made it because God never let go.  He has been holding tight all along.  You lost your job, but he never let go.  Your divorce was horrible, but God never let go.  You lost a loved one and it stills feels like you can’t breathe, but God never let you go.  Your body is hurting right this moment from a sickness or disease remember, God is never going to let go.

Don’t allow the challenges and adversities you face to keep you from enjoying your relationship with God because even though they might slow you down or sometimes stop you in your tracks, they can’t stop God.  And that is what Paul teaches us in these verses.  He had something going on with him that nagged him every day, so much so that he prayed for God to take it away three times, but each time God said, “My grace is sufficient my power works best in weakness.”

Here is your encouragement for today; God heals the wounds, but he leaves the scars.  Your scars are reminders of your victories and that God’s Grace is All You Need.

Keep on trusting Him, and He will keep holding you tight.

Have a blessed and bountiful Friday!
