‘Look Up Before You Get Up”
By Dianne Prince
My voice You shall hear in the morning, O LORD; In the morning I will direct it to You, And I will look up.” — Psalm 5:3 (NKJV)
At this early hour, before the noise builds and the day starts asking questions, we come to God. We bring our needs, our worries, and our hopes, and we look to Him for direction and help. Morning prayer is not about checking a box or following a routine. It is about turning our face toward God and saying, “I need You.” We do not step into the day hoping God will catch up with us. We pause first, trusting that He already knows what lies ahead.
The mercy we need for today is already waiting. Lamentations 3:22–23 reminds us, “Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” New mercies mean fresh strength for familiar struggles. New compassion means grace for the places where we are still growing. God does not reuse yesterday’s help. He meets us with exactly what we need, right on time, even at six in the morning.
When we turn our hearts to God early, things begin to shift. Our thoughts become clear. Peace settles in. Our perspective changes. The day may still bring pressure, but it no longer takes the lead. God does. Prayer becomes our guide, not our last resort. Faith rises when our soul wakes up before our schedule does.
As this day begins, make a simple choice. Choose intention over interruption. Choose prayer over panic. Choose trust over control. Lift your eyes. Lift your voice. Lift your expectations.
Carry this thought with you today: look up before you get up.
