“Still Standing”
By Dianne Prince
“We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed” (2 Corinthians 4:8-9, KJV).
As we celebrate Black History Month, we are thankful to God for taking care of us down through the years. Through centuries of hardships, cruelty, and prejudice, we as a people have survived. From the bondage of slavery to the demands of the Civil Rights Movement, from the struggles of yesterday to the challenges of today, we are still standing. Not because the road has been easy, but because God has been faithful.
Our ancestors stood firm in faith, trusting in the God who parted the Red Sea and made a way out of no way. They sang songs of hope, prayed through their pain, and believed in a future they might never see. Their endurance was not just because of their strength, but it was because of God’s sustaining power. And that same power keeps us today.
Despite the obstacles, we press forward. Despite the injustice, we rise. Despite the uncertainty, we hold on to hope. Through faith and perseverance, we continue the journey, knowing that our steps are ordered by the Lord.
So let us stand—strong in faith without wavering, bold in hope that our children will have a bright and stable future, and unwavering in love for God and love for each other. Our history is not just one of survival, but it is one of victory. And through Christ, we will continue to stand.
