“God Will Finish What He Started”

By Dianne Prince

“Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” — Philippians 1:6 (NKJV)

The faith we carry as African Americans has been shaped by endurance, prayer, and perseverance passed down through generations. Black history teaches us that God finishes what He started, even when the work takes longer than expected.

There were family members before us who trusted God in seasons that felt unfinished. They prayed for justice they would not see, freedom they would not fully touch, doors they would never walk through. Yet they believed God would complete what He started. And He did—line by line, generation by generation.

Today’s scripture reminds us that God does not abandon His work halfway. He does not lose interest. He does not walk away when the process gets hard. What He begins, He completes. The struggle, the waiting, the slow progress. It is all part of a divine process. My Grandmother used to make quilts. When she started, it was just a few squares of fabric. But as she worked on it day by day, a beautiful quilt came into view. Like a quilt stitched over time, every prayer, every sacrifice, every act of faith adds another square to our story.

As you meet today’s challenge, do so with confidence—not in yourself, but in God’s faithfulness. You are both the fruit of completed prayers and the seeds of future ones. Stay faithful. Keep believing. Keep moving forward. God is not finished yet. And He always completes what He started.
