“Deep Waters and Difficult Rivers”
By Dianne Prince
“When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you” (Isaiah 43:2, NLT)
Today’s scripture is a powerful reminder of the vastness of God’s covering for us. In our scripture today God’s children are living in captivity. God told them although He was chastising them for their sins, He would eventually restore them back to their rightful position. God reassured them that although they were living in discomfort and uncertainty, they had no need to fear. Why? Because God created them, and He cares for and sustains everyone and everything He created.
The reminder for you today is this. because you are in covenant relationship with God, He knows you by name. Because you belong to God, there are limits on how far the enemy can go in “interfering” with you, your mind, your spirit, your loved ones and even your things.
In life, the river will rise. The floods will come. And the water will ascend. Some of you may be in high water right now, trying to keep your head above the water. Know today that God is in control of the rising waters. His job is to control the intensity of the flood and your job is to swim until you reach the shore. As the waters rage all around you, God will sustain you. He will sustain your goods, and He will sustain everything that concerns you. God will hold you above the raging waters. He will allow you to get wet. He will even allow you to be tossed around. And He may allow your goods to float away. But God will keep you steady in the raging waters and He will not allow you to drown.
Today, when the high waters seem to be closing in on you, do not look at the waters, but keep your eyes on God. And just keep swimming toward the shore. As you do your part and swim, in due time, God will gather up everything that you lost. He will gather up everything that was taken. And He will gather up everything that slipped away—your joy, your peace, your health, your money, and your backslidden offspring. You name it and God will gather it all up and restore it to you in abundance.
