Delivered from the Pit

By Dianne Prince

“He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings” (Psalm 40:2, KJV).

In this morning’s scripture, we reflect on David’s struggle during one of the darkest seasons of his life. His trial did not come from outside enemies, but from within his own family. His ambitious son, Absalom, sought to take over the kingdom. Absalom manipulated the citizens to win their loyalty and seize the throne, but his plan included people and excluded God.

While David was in this pit, fleeing for his life, he cried out to God for deliverance, help, and hope. God heard his cry and lifted him out of the horrible pit.

Family conflicts will arise—disagreements, broken relationships, and some of life’s most painful moments. Whether at a wedding, funeral, reunion, or ordinary gathering, these experiences can cut deeply. Yet God is always with you in the struggle, and He always has a plan to bring you through.

If you find yourself in a “pit” today, it can be the very place to wait, be still, and allow the Lord to work. You do not have to handle everything on your own. Place it in God’s hands and trust His hand to move.

Tell Him your concerns and your pain. Share your heart with Him, and then praise Him while you wait. Just as the Lord delivered David, He will lift you up and set your feet upon solid ground. Be encouraged: the pit is not your final place. God is faithful, and His perfect timing will establish your steps.
