Joy in the Fire

By Dianne Prince

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds… because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” — James 1:2–3 (NIV)

When difficulty strikes, we have two options: trust God or worry about the outcome. Trust flows from faith; worry is fueled by fear. Faith says, “Lord, I trust You.” Fear says, “Lord, I’m not sure You can handle this.”

Trials build something in us that ease never could—perseverance. You do not learn endurance unless you are required to endure. You do not grow in faith without needing to use it.

Too often, we give up just before the breakthrough. We stop praying, stop believing, stop pressing in—right when God is about to move.

Remember this: trials often look like the opposite of God’s promises. Illness seems incurable. Bills seem endless. Relationships feel broken beyond repair. Grief can feel bottomless. Yet, each is an invitation to trust God more deeply.

Today, rather than resisting the hardship, lean into it—with God. Keep praying. Keep showing up. Keep believing. Endure. Because in the process, God will either change your situation—or He will change you.

And that change will leave you stronger, braver, and full of faith—proof that God really does bring beauty from the fire.
