Praise God Where You Are

By Dianne Prince

“I will praise You as long as I live, and in Your name I will lift up my hands.” – Psalm 63:4 (NKJV)

In today’s psalm, David longs to praise God in the sanctuary, yet he finds himself in the wilderness. Life is often like that. We envision one path, but circumstances beyond our control place us somewhere entirely different.

Even though David’s surroundings were far from ideal, he chose to praise God in the midst of chaos. His example reminds us that praise is not dependent on a location or a condition. Right where you are, you can lift your hands in thanksgiving, sing a song of worship, or pray a prayer of gratitude.

Whatever your surroundings look like and whatever emotions you may be feeling today, determine in your heart to praise God through it. Praise shifts our focus from ourselves to God. It silences complaints, refreshes our spirit, and renews our strength. It welcomes God’s presence and opens the way for His blessings to flow into our lives.

If you are in an uncomfortable place today, remember that God knows exactly where you are. And where you are is where He has allowed you to be in this moment. Praise is what will lift you above your circumstances. Sometimes, you must push past your feelings and intentionally praise God, even in difficulty.

But when you press in—when you lift your hands and call on His great name—God will usher you into peace, calmness, and the assurance that He is with you. He will steady you until the tide changes.

Right where you are, choose to lift your hands and praise Him. God meets you in that place and carries you forward with His strength.
