Shift Your Focus”
By Dianne Prince
“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:1-2, KJV).
We thank God today because He continually invites us to shift our focus from what we see to who He is. No matter what season we find ourselves in—whether standing on the mountaintop or walking through a valley—God remains our constant source of hope, joy, and strength. When life feels overwhelming and the way forward seems uncertain, He reminds us that our help does not come from our circumstances, but from Him, the faithful God who brings us through every challenge.
Today we reflect on how God is the source of our joy when things are going well and how He becomes our help and our strength when times are difficult. He is present in every season of life, steady and unchanging, even when everything around us feels unstable.
In biblical times, hills were often viewed in one of two ways: as places of refuge or as sources of danger. In this passage, however, the Psalmist does not look to the hills themselves for help. Instead, he looks beyond them—to the Creator of those hills. His confidence rests in the Lord who made heaven and earth.
“I lift up mine eyes to the hills” reminds us that God is not limited by our circumstances, nor is He confined by our location or situation. He can go where we cannot go. He can turn things right side up that have been turned upside down. He can bring order to what feels out of line and restore what has been broken for a long time. When we feel trapped by our circumstances and see no clear way forward, the God who spoke the universe into existence is the same God who can make a way and guide us through.
Your reminder for today is this: when stress, fear, or discouragement tries to take over, pause and shift your focus. Lift your eyes away from the problem and place them on the Problem-Solver. When the road ahead looks like a dead end, remember that your help does not come from your own strength or understanding, but from the Lord—the One who made heaven and earth and who is faithful to carry you through.
