“When God Rewrites the Verdict”
By Dianne Prince
“And Abraham came near and said, ‘Would You also destroy the righteous with the wicked?'” — Genesis 18:23 (NKJV)
In today’s scripture, God had declared that judgment was coming upon Sodom. From a human perspective, the decision appeared fixed. Yet Abraham drew near to God with humility and bold faith. He interceded, asking whether the righteous would be spared. Rather than rejecting Abraham’s plea, God responded with mercy, agreeing that He would spare the city if enough righteous people were found.
This passage reminds us that prayer changes things. While God is sovereign and His purposes never fail, He also welcomes our prayers and works because of them. Abraham’s intercession reminds that we serve a God who delights in justice, mercy, and relationship.
In our lives, there are moments when circumstances seem settled. A doctor’s report, a financial hardship, or a broken relationship may appear beyond hope. Yet God invites you to bring those situations before Him in prayer. What seems final to you is never beyond His authority. He is able to accomplish what you cannot see and open doors you could never create.
Do not allow a difficult report to silence your faith. Draw near to God with confidence. Trust that He hears every sincere prayer. And know that His mercy is greater than your circumstances.
Keep praying. God is still able to change what seems unchangeable.
