“Ask Boldly”

By Dianne Prince

“Yet you do not have because you do not ask.” — James 4:2b (NKJV)

I recently purchased a new pair of glasses. They looked stylish, but the nose pads pinched so badly that I could barely wear them. After four visits to the store for adjustments, the problem remained. Finally, on the fourth trip, I asked, “What are my options here? I have been here four times and these glasses are pretty much useless to me.” To my surprise, they offered to replace them with a different style—at no cost.

For weeks, I endured discomfort because I assumed there was no better option. I had not even considered asking for a replacement. I settled for what I thought I had to live with.

In life and in faith, we often do the same. We hesitate to ask God boldly for what we truly need or desire—especially when it feels impossible. We tell ourselves it is too big, too late, or too much. But James reminds us that we do not have because we do not ask. God is not limited by what seems likely or logical. He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think.

What burden, dream, or desire have you held back from bringing to God? Ask Him.
God is not intimidated by your request. He is moved by your faith. Ask boldly—and believe.
