“Grateful for More”

By Dianne Prince

“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.” — Psalm 103:2 (NKJV)

This morning, we paused to thank God—not only for waking us up, giving us breath, health, strength, and the promise of eternal life—but for so much more. We are grateful for His guidance when we are uncertain, His peace in the middle of chaos, and His grace that covers our flaws. God’s blessings are countless, and His goodness touches even the smallest details of our lives. The small things such as finding a parking space in an overcrowded parking lot—trivial things that go unnoticed if we are not paying attention.

David, the author of Psalm 103, understood this deeply. Though he was a warrior and a king, he often stopped to reflect on God’s faithfulness. He remembered being chosen while still tending sheep, rescued from Saul’s pursuit, and forgiven when he fell short. David could have praised God only for victory in battle or for the throne—but he chose to bless the Lord for all His benefits: healing, mercy, redemption, love, and compassion.

Like David, we must not overlook the unseen blessings: the doors God closed for our protection, the strength He gave when we wanted to quit, the comfort He provided during private moments of sorrow. Each one is a reason to give thanks.

Let us allow our gratitude to go beyond what we see. God is always working behind the scenes—so let us bless Him today for all His benefits, both seen and unseen.
